Note from the Author
Surrounded by all the voices that cry out to us in this beautiful and chaotic world, I have decided that the voice I seek is the one that will fill me with true peace. A few years ago I was in a state of despair, in spite of the wonderful things I was experiencing in my life.
Deeply thankful for all these blessings but nevertheless frustrated by the hatred and violence present in the world, I felt that surely there was something more I could do. I am not a clever world leader or a gifted inspirational speaker, but I hoped that one of my talents could be used to serve in some way. I recalled the words of a favorite old proverb and before I knew it, I had composed the rhymes of a children's picture book in my mind.
Then the idea of creating hand-sewn illustrations came to me. I had always enjoyed sewing and other crafts, as do several other women who are close to me, and so evolved the idea to sew with these other Sisters Everywhere Wishing for peace. Now I had the text, the illustrations, and even the title, but because the ideas came so quickly and easily to me, I felt that I was only the messenger and could not profit from this project.
As I continued to create I enlisted the help of my daughters, my mother, grandmother, my mother-in-law, as well as a few friends. I knew what we needed to do. We should follow the advice of the words in the book and use all the profits to help feed and educate the children of the world because they are the peacemakers of the future. Thank you for purchasing our book and helping us with your generosity.
Please enjoy this book that carries a message so simple that a child can easily understand it and yet adults can quickly forget it.
Look for the little heart-shaped button on each page; it represents the peace we can spread. All children, young and old, can comprehend this very basic truth.
I started with the peace in me and I am sharing it with anyone I meet. I hope that they, in turn, share it with another.
Peace be with you,
Sandra Palmer Fish
